Hi good evening friends, I would like to share another self improvement chapter of my life where I pursued my studies at the University. the budget given to me for my varsity studies was not much so I had to make do with very mundane breakfast and water from the water cooler so that I could save money to buy calculator. A calculator twenty years ago was very costly and bulky. I managed to buy a good calculator and a slide rule for my business calculus.

The days of learning was tough. A lot of young people think that older people had it easy. Actually we were not able to get resources and books were very expensive and limited. The library is forever swamped with students waiting for the same volumes. I managed to secure a good seat before the library opened every morning because I would leave my house at early hours in the morning and then reaching the university way before any other person. So I would sit right next to the library door for the librarian to open the door at 8.30 am in the morning.

Ah, it was fun because I would be armed with my favourite book or a magazine. this enabled me to gain knowledge and not waste my time. Also I would use the time to think about the meals I would have to prepare when I returned home from the varsity. The days passed very quickly and soon it was time for graduation.

I was able to get a good job way before my graduation because I was a great learner and many lecturers praised me for attentiveness and hardwork. Yes, hardwork is the key to success.

Going for further studies is a great way up the social ladder. In fact the rungs on the social ladder would be smoother when you have a good degree. Also you gained lots of friends who could help you in future.

I like to encourage all of you to pursue your academic dreams and your learning towards your goals in life. The Chinese has a saying which suggess that learning is a source of wealth and books are the keys to lots of wealth and riches... sure, it is a key or a means to self enlightenment and self enhancement. The view from the top of the ladder is different from the bottom of the ladder. It inspires me to go for greater heights because the learning experience at the university gave me several useful lessons:
a) it gave me confidence and self belief in my abilities and capabilities
b) it gave me new insights into doing certain projects
c) it gave me good friends who shared my enthusiasm for life
d) it gave me hope for a better life

Now I not only got my necessary educational qualifications, I also gained valuable lifesklls such as how to negotiate for better scores; how to work your way through a difficult project and how to handle difficult people.

So friends, plan for your further studies today. Today is present. Today is a gift. Plan today for a better tomorrow
