The Self Improvement and NLP BLog - Thoughts for May Day
Hi folks and friends, yesterday was May Day. There are two meanings
to May Day. One is the calling for help as if we are in trouble or crisis. The other is that we are having the rest for all labourers in the world of work.
For the first meaning, it is common for people to get into some form of crisis because life is full of problems and troubles of sorts. The calling of SOS or May Day, May Day is to allow people to answer to your call and come to your aid. I have my first May Day when I broke my shoulder during a judo match years ago. When I screamed for help, everyone around me thought I was just seeking attention since I did not win the tournament match. Well, I was thrown off the shoulder by a more rugged female judoka who recklessly hurled me onto the hard tatami(floor) with her speedy throw. I was not able to break my fall on time and had a nasty shoulder pain. This May Day of mine was responded by all with lukewarm help because everyone around me including my sibling thought that I was stronger than that. I could handle anything tough. I was sort of a "tough cookie" boyish and cocky. Well, it was a disaster and my help came from the most unexpected person - a frail male teacher who was thin as a rake. He helped me to the ground in front of all the bewildered looks and drove me to the nearest hospital and waited for me. Well, he was my first love and my motivation to do better for my judo practical test nex time round. His gentle demeanour made me think that all men should be like that. Well, until today I have not found anyone gentler than my ex-teacher. I wonder how he is today? I hope he has become someone's dream man and a wonderful husband I am sure.
Well the next type of May Day is what all workers look forward to -- a day of rest from labour. May Day is also call Labour Day during which workers will stop work and reflect on what is the improvement they have to make on their lives and others. For me , May First (May 1) was a good day because it enables me to sleep, eat and read my favourite book.
May Day is a day of self examination for all of us. Each of us must look at our own reflection in the mirror and adjust our hair, clean our face and adjust our attire before facing the brave new challenges of the next day. Indeed, a smile is the best accessory to any dress, any attire and any new start. It is the shortest bridge for any two persons when some one smiles and makes us feel good.
Yes, life is about many May Days of rest and crises. It is really up to us to handle each day as it comes. I am now learning guitar and finding the chords interesting and the fingers painful because the fingerings on the guitar frets are not easy when you are above 35 years old as fingers are stiff and hard to bend with the chords. Learning is never easy. Self improvement is never easy too. It takes effort, discipline and most important of all, self belief that I can do it. Yes, all of us can do it if we put our hope on having fun and learning.
Cheers
